magic marker tattoos

because i’m obsessed with photobooth today, i drew terribly on my arm like a 5 year old and took pictures. so these are the tattoos i want expertly laid out in magic marker and drawn upside down from my perspective hence the wonkiness.

i’ve been thinking of the frame for a really long time and it finally all came together last week. so there’s this book called bird by bird and in it the author says that she keeps a 1” picture frame by her desk to remind her that all she has to do is write as much as it takes to fill the frame. it encourages her to just write enough to describe what she’d see in the tiny tiny frame, even if writing is the last thing she wants to do when she sits down.

i’ve been scouring the internet for a square frame that i love, and i couldn’t even find any that i like. drawing one wasn’t working either. i thought about getting a polaroid, but it just seems pretentious and internet-y to me. last week i was in bed and i couldn’t sleep and the fevers and mirrors album art was in my head and it just clicked. i knew there were rectangular frames in the liner art so i googled the image so i wouldn’t wake up dan by getting up and getting my cd and it’s exactly what i’ve been looking for. combine bird by bird meaning with the lyrics from the big picture, and it’s perfect for me.

the lion is a picture based on aslan from narnia that i drew earlier today, but this time it's on my skin and drawn upsidedown and smudgy with gross markers.

i’m really into this idea of getting a tattoo of a lion on my upper arm because my parents are both leos and they’re courageous and loyal and i love lions and aslan from narnia, even though i’m an atheist and he’s supposed to be jesus for babies, but he was so badass. i’m also in love with these staedtler watercolour pencils laura gave me. next time im near michaels, i’m totally going to buy a full set because i’m really missing the colours brown, dark green and black.

Day 2: What I Wore

i bought this shirt from the sale rack at work because it was too ugly not to. it’s a legit old lady shirt with shoulder pads and even original store tags because it’s even too ugly for old ladies. it’s impossible to take a good (photobooth) picture of it in all of its anti-glory. it just makes me look 40lbs heavier. PERFECT SUNDAY SHIRT.

today is one of those days that i’m envious of people who live in a 5km radius of downtown because there’s a pretty neat halloween bazaar going on today and it’d be cute to ride my bike there with a pretty dress on and buy nice things, but alas, i’m in forest glade and i’m not riding my bike that far.

the tree in front of my house has lost about 70% of its leaves and it makes me sad. i never really get to see it in the day light because of my working forever, so i missed out on its nice colours. there aren’t any nice trees in my part of little italy, as far as i can tell.

i want to make some mix cds today and drink cappuccino and eat poptarts and do something with a pumpkin. we never get pumpkins until the 30th or later. i don’t know what’s up with that.

Little Red Riding Hood

i work in a thrift store, so i'm always finding cute things that are my style for incredibly cheap. i found this amazing red (kids size) jacket in the backroom (where we wash, dry, tag and price things before they go on the floor) and i knew i had to have it. it's slightly too small (the button area rides up a bit due to my feminine adult body ahem) but i still love it and wear it all the time. i knew it'd be perfect for halloween too! i've been thinking of being little red riding hood since the day i bought it, and now that my hair is long enough for braids that poke out of the hood, the costume can totally work.

a few days ago, my store had a 50% sale. i worked both days of the sale (9:30 until 6), so i barely had time to buy things myself. on the last day, i spent two hours going through the racks (especially the $4.99 dress rack [$4.99 BEFORE the 50% off!!!]), trying things on and ringing out. i spent entirely wayyyy too much money, but i did some math when i got home to justify my spending. basically, if each item i bought was being sold at an original non-50% off discounted price of say $25 each, my total bill would have been $900 before tax. i only spent $110 after tax, so i feel really good about my purchases :D i ended up getting 11 dresses, i think 5 skirts, 3 pairs of jeans (i've only ever bought ONE pair of jeans in my life! i hate jean shopping because they tend to only make jeans for 5'8" tall women, and i'm much shorter than that. i found a pair of size 5 Garage jeans at work for $4.50 after the 50% discount and they fit SO good. they don't even touch the ground. this is unheard of!).

anyway, i was just taking pictures of my red coat for my cousin natalie, and i tried on one of my dresses with it, just to see how it looks. i think it works as a little red riding hood outfit too! i love finding halloween costumes in my own wardrobe : )

here are some photobooth pictures:
